Health Insurance Counseling and Advocacy Program
LAS has been the contracted provider for Alameda County HICAP services since 1988. In addition to an office staff of five, HICAP relies on its highly trained volunteer counselors to provide specialized individual assistance to clients throughout Alameda County.
The volunteers learn the details and nuances of Medicare, stay current on all the related health insurance options.
LAS may provide the following assistance to Alameda County
residents. Appointments are available at sites throughout the
County and counselors may make home visits to clients who are unable to
leave their home:
We served 400 clients last year
- Accurate, objective counseling for individual Medicare and
Medicare/Medi-Cal recipients on their coverage, rights and options
within the federal health-care system, to assist individuals in making
good health insurance choices.
- Informal advocacy and, if appropriate, formal legal representation when Medicare or Medicare/Medi-Cal recipients are experiencing billing and coverage problems An extensive menu of community education presentations on related topics.
